Who are we?

Manchester 500 is a bike group dedicated to improving safe riding amongst the motorcycle community of the Manchester area. We have a team of Qualified Observers who volunteer to support other bikers improve their riding skills and increase their safety.

Manchester 500 RoadSmart Courses

Manchester 500 Group RoadSmart courses are run regularly throughout the year usually on the first and third Saturday each month, the dates are published in the group Calendar of Events. Most of our observed runs start from GMP Hough End Sports club Meet at 8.45 am for a 9:00 am start. Fuel is not available on site so please start the run with sufficient fuel to complete the ride. Each course starts with an induction session at which you will be advised about the principles of Advanced Motorcycling and what you can expect from us during the "on the road" sessions and what we expect of you during the course. This also provides an opportunity for any questions you may have about the course. We require you to sign a declaration confirming you and your motorcycle are compliant with motoring law and regulations.
Manchester 500 offer a five part course comprising one assessment session and four Observer guided modules. Each outing has a specific theme which is designed to help you to progress quickly to test standard. We include a log book so that you can track your progress and reflect on areas to improve. During the observed rides you will ride your own bike and will be followed by one of our Observers who will offer advice on how to improve your riding. All of our Observers are able to demonstrate the skills you are looking to acquire. Request one any time you feel it would be of help. Towards the end of the course we try to give you the opportunity to meet an Examiner and find out what is expected of you on the Advanced Motorcycle Test. These meeting are however subject to the Examiner's availability. To download the routes including files compatible with Tom Tom and Garmin and many other motorcycle navigation devices (see our Course Info page.)

Social events

On the second Thursday of the month at around 8.00pm we meet at the GMP Hough End Sports club for a small informal get together to chat, share a few laughs and maybe have a drink or two (If you’re not driving or riding that is). Although we do not organise regular social rides, many members arrange outing between themselves both in the UK and further a field. If you are interested please talk to your observer or one of the committee members. When on social rides you will be mixing with experienced riders whose pace may be higher than you are accustomed to. You must ride to your own ability, your safety is always your personal responsibility.
We use the GMP Hough End Sports & Social club as our base, starting point for all Social meetings, Social and most Observed rides, Post code M21 7SX. What3 words location ///fame.lows.object For a map and directions click here
